Think of the Evolve as the Mafia. Trust it and you will cash in, but screw up and it will punish you. “This is a responsive turner that performs well all around the mountain,” said Zak Norman. “But you can’t ski lazy!”  Complex construction may play a role. The core is a mix of bamboo and poplar woods divided into four pieces by three vertical aluminum alloy struts. Two carbon fibre stringers, a full fibreglass wrap top sheet and polyurethane sidewalls seal the deal. It’s the vertical pieces of aluminum that stand out. The unique design adds the dampening of metal without the weight. To our testers, the Evolve felt soft in the tip and stiff through the rest of the ski. But it bends nicely in the bumps and initiates turns easily. Better yet, it didn’t get floppy or flappy when testers hit the gas—even the big boys. As long as they stayed engaged it powered through anything. “So responsive in everything,” said Steve Draper. “An all-around great ski.”
