SKI TEST 2021

FACTION PRODIGY 2.0X * FREERIDE * WOMEN

BEST FOR: Lettin’ ‘er loose in wide-open terrain

Faction Prodigy 2.0X

This “freestyle all-mountain” ski wasn’t as playful and surfy or hard-charging as some Official Test Skis in this category. But it filled the sweet, middle ground in between with a lot of fun, riding on edge one minute and floating through powder the next. Faction gave the Prodigy a poplar wood core for light weight and a lively character. For a twintip ski, it had a surprisingly stiff tail. That was handy for carving on groomers and stomping landings, but demanded a little more attention in steeps and tight terrain. “It didn’t feel particularly responsive in the trees,” reported Robin Humphreys. Strong intermediates and up, with a taste for speed, will find the Prodigy a competent companion for pushing their limits.

Ryan Stuart
Ryan Stuart has a ski for every possible condition and a jacket to match. Well maybe not quite, but the magazine’s Technical Editor has more than enough of both and can’t wait to test out whatever is coming next. When he’s not testing skis or writing the buyer’s guides, you can’t find him exploring his bumpy backyard on Vancouver Island. @ryan_adventures
