SKI TEST 2021

SALOMON STANCE 96 * ALL-MOUNTAIN * EDITORS’ CHOICE*

BEST FOR: Experts carving up the whole mountain

Salomon Stance 96

The Stance rewarded the speedy. The faster our testers pushed this ski—whether it was on groomers, the bumps or chopped-up pow—the better it performed. “Once up to speed, it skis great,” noted Jade Keene from Ski Tak Hut, a Vancouver Island ski shop. For its first all-mountain, metal-laminate ski, Salomon took the carbon and flax weave from its freeride QST skis. Then from its piste and race skis it added a poplar wood core, race-inspired sidecut and two sheets of Titanal. With all-mountain waist widths, from 90 to 102mm underfoot, the Stance has the shape to do it all, but, as Keene suggested, it’s not intermediate friendly. It took a hard-charging skilled hand to find Stance love. “The more energy I gave it, the better it performed,” wrote Technical Editor Ryan Stuart. Stable, powerful and able to carve through anything in its path, this is a one-ski quiver for expert rippers.

Ryan Stuart has a ski for every possible condition and a jacket to match. Well maybe not quite, but the magazine’s Technical Editor has more than enough of both and can’t wait to test out whatever is coming next. When he’s not testing skis or writing the buyer’s guides, you can’t find him exploring his bumpy backyard on Vancouver Island. @ryan_adventures
