The women’s equivalent of the Maverick, the Maven, proved to be a more versatile machine than its unisex colleague. Testers found its poplar core with carbon inserts (rather than the Maverick’s two titanium sheets) smoothly transitioned from digging trenches on groomers to dumping speed in steep bump lines. Tip and tail rocker and flaring, spoon-like edges at the tip brought it to a plane quickly in powder, making it feel like a wider ski, and helped to get it on edge early and effortlessly in any snow. “Easy to turn and holds a carve,” noted Deanna Papineau, along with a bunch of celebratory emojis. “Solid fun!” It’s a good pick for advanced skiers who want to be able to push it when and where they feel like it.
