One of a kind

The Cruz is an aptly named hippy. Rather than turn heads with bling, it caught our testers’ attention with minimalism. The only graphic is a humble Waist Deep logo branded into the bamboo topsheet. The predominantly bamboo construction is about as sustainable it gets, while retaining important ski attributes, including a light weight and a smooth flex. Its slalom-esque turning radius translates into easy turning. “Very responsive carving,” said Mark Lassan. True to its name, the ski felt most at home on soft-packed snow and at moderate speeds. The one stand-out quirk is its low-rise tip, which made testers nervous. But it never hung up, even when they wandered off groomers for a wiggle through the trees.

Ryan Stuart
Ryan Stuart has a ski for every possible condition and a jacket to match. Well maybe not quite, but the magazine’s Technical Editor has more than enough of both and can’t wait to test out whatever is coming next. When he’s not testing skis or writing the buyer’s guides, you can’t find him exploring his bumpy backyard on Vancouver Island. @ryan_adventures
