There’s a reason for the hefty price tag; Stöckli is synonymous with hand-crafted, high-tech skis. And judging by tester feedback on the renovated Stormrider, they’re worth every penny. “Race-ski performance for everyday fun,” as Jim Elliot put it. Stöckli calls it a freeride ski, but we found it felt classically all-mountain. There are two sheets of Titanal: the upper one is the topsheet, which protects the ski. A new wood core combines paulownia to cut weight, poplar for suppleness, and beech for stability and control. A new shape features light rocker in the tail and more in the tip. It’s not a particularly aggressive or high-energy ski, but let it ride an open turn and it feels stable and ready for anything.

Ryan Stuart
Ryan Stuart has a ski for every possible condition and a jacket to match. Well maybe not quite, but the magazine’s Technical Editor has more than enough of both and can’t wait to test out whatever is coming next. When he’s not testing skis or writing the buyer’s guides, you can’t find him exploring his bumpy backyard on Vancouver Island. @ryan_adventures
