K2 bills the new Blur family as “specialized piste” skis. That’s definitely true of the 83 XT, but when testers strayed off groomers they didn’t lose focus. The XT is the most performance-oriented ski in the family, with an aspen wood core, a flax shield and repurposed base materials. An H-shaped sheet of recycled Titanal spreads full width under the binding, splitting to run along the edges to the tip and tail. Just a hint of tip and tail rocker ensures there’s plenty of edge in contact with the snow and lots of camber provides a bouncy feel. These skis came alive at higher speeds and performed best under more powerful skiers who put energy into their turns. Said Chris Pawlitsky: “When I stepped on it, the Blur carved and held really well.”

Ryan Stuart
Ryan Stuart has a ski for every possible condition and a jacket to match. Well maybe not quite, but the magazine’s Technical Editor has more than enough of both and can’t wait to test out whatever is coming next. When he’s not testing skis or writing the buyer’s guides, you can’t find him exploring his bumpy backyard on Vancouver Island. @ryan_adventures
