This ski does the impossible. It skis like a heavy, resort-oriented board. But in weighing only 1,700g, as G3 says, it’s the lightest ski in its class. It gets the damp and powerful downhill performance from two sheets of Titanal and polyurethane sidewalls. Weight cutting comes from balsa wood and carbon fibre. The lightweight ski felt super stable, even at high speeds. With plenty of rocker in the tip and tail and just a hint of camber under foot, it wanted to get to the surface quickly, and shredded through crust with confidence. Plus, the Slayr was easier to turn than its radius suggests. Said Chris Baikie: “It’s everything I’d want for managing the variables of backcountry ski touring.”

Ryan Stuart
Ryan Stuart has a ski for every possible condition and a jacket to match. Well maybe not quite, but the magazine’s Technical Editor has more than enough of both and can’t wait to test out whatever is coming next. When he’s not testing skis or writing the buyer’s guides, you can’t find him exploring his bumpy backyard on Vancouver Island. @ryan_adventures
