SKI CANADA TEST 2022

DYNASTAR SPEED 963 * ON-PISTE

BEST FOR: Making fast, tight turns in firm snow.

Judge this book by its cover. A deep sidecut, short stature and hefty weight suggested a tight-turning speed demon that can crush through anything. That’s just what testers found. “What a fun little firecracker,” wrote Steve Acciaroli. “Lively and quick.” It feels like a detuned race ski and, indeed, it shares the same Hybrid Core as Dynastar’s FIS slalom skis. It’s a mix of wood and polyurethane, a rubbery material that smooths out the ride. Just thinking about turning seemed to be enough to set it on edge. A sheet of metal that tapers into a V at the tip and tail adds stability and torsional power. It was happiest carving tight turns, and held on no matter how hard we pushed. But in longer turns it felt a little jittery. If you like to turn, rather than bomb, this should be your groomer ski.

Ryan Stuart
Ryan Stuart has a ski for every possible condition and a jacket to match. Well maybe not quite, but the magazine’s Technical Editor has more than enough of both and can’t wait to test out whatever is coming next. When he’s not testing skis or writing the buyer’s guides, you can’t find him exploring his bumpy backyard on Vancouver Island. @ryan_adventures
