With a soft and surfy ride, these fat skis make deep days easy, and tough conditions even easier. The newest iteration of the Nocta has a shorter turn radius and a deeper camber, while retaining the lightweight paulownia, poplar and fibreglass semi-cap construction of its predecessors. Testers were shocked at how well it performed in packed conditions and in bumps. In the deep pow at Backcountry Snowcats, Nigel Harrison found it to have a surfy feel, with a solid platform he could use to slash, pop and smear. Dedicated big ski lover Colin Somers said that for such an aggressive sidecut, “the ski still allowed any turn shape and easy slarves.” Thoroughly impressed, he declared the Nocta 122 one of the most versatile powder skis he’s ever tried.

Ryan Stuart
Ryan Stuart has a ski for every possible condition and a jacket to match. Well maybe not quite, but the magazine’s Technical Editor has more than enough of both and can’t wait to test out whatever is coming next. When he’s not testing skis or writing the buyer’s guides, you can’t find him exploring his bumpy backyard on Vancouver Island. @ryan_adventures
