Playful and stiff, responsive and stable, hard snow to powder and everywhere in between; when it came to the renovated Rustler the adjectives flowed as easily as the love. Blizzard has adjusted its freeride favourite to make it even more versatile than the original. The big change is a new wood core: poplar and paulownia with beech stringers. The stringers have been lined up to add more stiffness under the foot, which lessens progressively towards the ends of the skis. Designers also broke the full sheet of Titanal into three pieces; a strip down each edge and a piece under the binding. Whether it’s the stringers, the metal, or both, the ski now has multiple personalities. It’s a freeride, all-mountain beast, yes, but also a hard snow charger. “This felt like a race ski,” said slight but fit Lindsay Elms. “The faster I went the quicker it was to edge and turn.”
