Fibre anyone? K2 is bringing flax to its mid-size Mindbender skis. It may not make you more regular, but it will increase dampness, cut weight and even reduce the environmental impact of these all-mountain workhorses. K2 combined flax fibres with a bio resin and spectral braid carbon fibre (more concentrated fibres near the centre of the ski and less toward the tip and tail). The addition of the flax should make this Mindbender easier-turning, more forgiving and smoother through crud. Testers were split. Mellower and lighter skiers found it unresponsive and chattery, while heavier and more aggressive skiers found a capable and exciting ski, no matter where they took it. Everyone agreed it’s easiest to manage at faster speeds, in softer snow and when skied with more energy.
