BEST FOR: Intermediate to advanced skiers weighing more than 150 pounds
Testers were unanimous in praising the Atlas’s ability to wander wherever the map led them. “Very stable at speed but also quick to turn in bumps and trees,” wrote Paul Laperrière, calling it his favourite ski of the test. “Stiff but not hard to control.” You can almost hear Atlas’s designers saying “Exactly!” Inside the Atlas’s Canadian maple core are rods of VibeStop, a proprietary polymer that stiffens as vibration intensifies. At slow speeds, Renoun says it skis “soft” and feels easy and forgiving. At high speeds, vibrations increase and the rods stiffen, making the ski feel planted and stable. Two sheets of Titanal metal and a sheet each of carbon fibre and fibreglass add more rigidity and edge bite. Lighter skiers found the Atlas a bit too stiff at high speeds to get on edge, but everyone liked it at moderate and high speeds and in all kinds of terrain. Steve Accioroli summed it up: “An easy-turning all-mountain ski.”
