The Dogtooth Dash, Saturday, April 3, 2010

March 17th 2010, Golden, BC…. The Dogtooth Dash returns to Kicking Horse Mountain Resort on Saturday, April 3rd.  For the second year in a row, the Dogtooth Dash will be the Canadian Ski Mountaineering Championship event.  The race is run in partnership with the Alpine Club of Canada, the Golden Ski Mountaineering Club, and the Big Mountain Centre at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.

“Kicking Horse Mountain Resort is pleased to welcome back the Canadian Ski Mountaineering race circuit to the resort,” says Steve Paccagnan, President and General Manager at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.  “Our course is one of the most challenging Ski Mountaineering race courses in North America, utilizing all three alpine bowls, with technical boot packs / descents on each ridge line and a unique Le-Mans start around the award winning Eagle’s Eye Restaurant.”

The race concept combines all elements of ski touring with athletes skiing, skinning (climbing) and hiking around a course situated in the spectacular terrain making up the three alpine bowls of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort.  The Dogtooth Dash race course is set entirely within the ski area boundary and will challenge athletes with 1,302m / 4,272ft of climbing / descending on the competitive course, and 692m / 2,270ft of climbing / descending on the recreational poker run course.

New to this year’s event is the introduction of a wide range of prizing categories within two main course options: a competitive class (full course) and recreational class (poker run).  While the competitive class is focused on the seasoned racers, the new recreational class ‘poker run’ includes participants grabbing cards at transition stations and playing the best card hand for first grab at prizes, instead of the first racer across the line.
