NORDICA SANTA ANNA

BEST FOR: A freeride buddy.

Nordica Santa Anna 104

Women. The “Free” version of the Santa Ana is the hippy sister of the family. It shares the same lightweight balsa wood core as the regular Santa Ana’s, but has a softer and more rounded tip and tail. And as the Free models get wider, the size of the Titanal sheet shrinks proportionally. Less metal softens up the ski. At the same time, tip and tail rocker increase, making the skis more playful and forgiving. “Easy to turn both on- and off-piste,” wrote Robin Humphries. That comes with a caveat: on firm snow testers noted the rider had to stay forward and aggressive or the ski tended to wander. It was more approachable in powder, where the 104mm waist and the tip and tail rocker helped it plane on the surface quickly and pivot nimbly through tight trees. A powder-day ski with enough all-mountain performance to remain fun for tracked-up afternoons.
