Gondola For Grouse

Reading Time: < 1 minutes

Billed as the Peak of Vancouver, Grouse Mountain is one of the city’s top tourist attractions. Currently, skiers, snowboarders and hikers access runs and trails via the Skyride, a 130-passenger tram that whisks visitors from an expansive parking lot to an upper lodge in less than six minutes. In the fall, Grouse announced plans to replace an aging service tram with a high-speed six-passenger gondola that will increase uphill capacity by more than a thousand passengers per hour. The combination of a new gondola and existing tram would greatly reduce lineups and bottlenecks in the parking area at peak times. Pending approvals from Metro Vancouver Parks (which owns the land that contains the popular Grouse Grind hiking trail), the new gondola hopefully will be up and running by the winter of 2023.
