N°5 sounds like a British spy and this ski turns like a Bond girl too. In other words, it rips. Part of Elan’s extensive new family of carving skis, this is the most aggressive model on the women’s side. It has an exceptionally narrow width for a recreational ski, which translates to lightning fast transitions and easy edging in firm snow. A dedicated left and right ski allowed Elan to beef up the core on the inside edge and take away material from the outside. Even with two sheets of Titanal it turns easily. “All the skier has to do is stay centred and enjoy the ride,” said tester Chelsea Ruben. More adventurous testers found its slalom turn radius made it a fast-turning ski through the trees and bumps. But the N°5 was happiest on groomers cruising medium or long turns. This ski performed best for skilled and more powerful skiers. More intermediate skiers should check out the N°4 and N°3.
