The Primetime skis were already scalpels on-piste before Elan added carbon to create the even better-carving Black Edition. “Easy to initiate turns and holds a carve very well,” said tester Doug Fisher. Like most Elan skis, the Primetime has an asymmetric shape and construction that varies the wood core with thicker and denser wood on the inside edge and lighter, thinner wood on the outside edge. With carbon, two sheets of Titanal and an hourglass design, there’s a noticeable focus of energy and power on the inside edge for smooth and dynamic edging. Testers found some versatility off-piste, but, like Mark Lassan, most found the Primetime was a groomer specialist that didn’t mind speed. “Ski fast and carve hard with 100 percent confidence,” he said. “The ski will take everything you give it.”

Ryan Stuart has a ski for every possible condition and a jacket to match. Well maybe not quite, but the magazine’s Technical Editor has more than enough of both and can’t wait to test out whatever is coming next. When he’s not testing skis or writing the buyer’s guides, you can’t find him exploring his bumpy backyard on Vancouver Island. @ryan_adventures
