Dressing for Success

WINTER 2015 issue – She was narrowly pipped off the podium at Lake Louise’s opening World Cup downhill in December, but Owen Sound, Ontario’s Larisa Yurkiw was leading the fashion pack when she earned a thrilling 4th. High on the trend-o-metre this season are these practical and chic down-padded skirts that are warming some of the most toned tushes in skiing. Soignée yet savvy, after being sidelined for two seasons with a knee injury and being cut from the Canadian Alpine Ski Team in April 2013, Larisa struck out independently as Team Larisa—raising $150,000, heading to Sochi independently and now a result like this. “My coach was almost crying [about my 4th-place finish] yesterday and he’s a man’s man.” Funky skirts—they’re the new pants—are found in ski shops across Canada and online at sooski.ca

Since then, she’s made tracks from the Niagara Escarpment to the UK (indoor and outdoor), Europe, North and South America, and as far afield as Japan, Iran, and the heli-heaven of Blue River, BC. All credit to the Beav’s spring-loaded T-bar and life-threatening mighty-might for the early training. @leslielooking
